good, not great
I have a small shop and we use these on the bench. I have a snap on unit that I feel is too powerful for our uses, a Bosch 9.6 volt unit that is perfect for our use and this Hitachi which is not quite powerful enough extracting screws but is fine for assembly work.

Worth every penny
I bought this for $100 a year and a half ago ($300 for this is insanity go to Lowe's or somewhere else). There are plenty of options for $200-$400, but that is a lot of money. I figured if I had to buy 2 or 3 of these it would still be worth it. It has been! I work in a heavy industrial environment that reeks havoc on tools but this has lasted far beyond my expectations. It is very light weight and has great battery life (approximately 300 1/4" bolts). I use it mostly with a 3/8" socket adapter. It has withstood 130 degree heat drops from 4' and merciless gypsum dust. My only complaint is the torque, I would say it is closer to 500 inch pounds, but I bought it for convenience not torque.

Buy the combo kit with drill driver instead.
Great tool - why pay 90+ for one when you can get a deal for two?

Handy little tool
What you get in the box is a #2 Phillips electric screwdriver, and it does that well. Its only drawback as a screwdriver is that you can't turn off the impact feature and it makes it difficult to feel whether you might be stripping a screw head when using in tight places. And the inability to use the standard short driver bits somewhat defeats the purpose of a compact head. I haven't seen quick release bits shorter than the one they include. The smaller bits will slide in, but the drill doesn't hold them from staying in the screw head.

You can't use your normal round based drill bits. You need a set of quick release bits, and those sets are usually pretty limited. Many people already have a socket arbor, and no other drill can use sockets without one anyway. For the price they could have included at least a set of quick release drill bits since few people are likely to already have them. And maybe a selection of driver bits other than just a #2 Phillips.

The bulky hard case with molded inserts is just a throwaway for me. I much prefer the trend to a nylon or canvas bag instead of the molded one for better quality items. They are more compact and versatile.

The Hitachi does have a lot of power in a small package and is handy for small jobs. The impact feature works well and would probably make it a good nut driver for smaller nuts.

great light duty power tool
I own the complete micro 10.8 volt line they are great tools for light duty jobs that they were design for. The small size and ergonomics makes it great for light duty work in electrical, HVAC, Cabinetry trades and are grate for home use as well. But they should not be compared against the power and torque that your normal 12v, 14v and 18v cordless power tools will provide.
